Eat

On the street that links to the Rua do Souto, a few doors down from the Mavy Bookstore, you’ll find this concept brought to Braga by Jorge Freitas and Francisco Carvalho, who love hamburgers, but not just any hamburger – we’re talking about gourmet hamburgers! The slow food way of life has reached hamburgers and Braga is a fan.

It’s good, and it’s good for the mouth. The Boa Boca restaurant is on a little corner located near the Calouste Gulbenkian music school. This space is described by those who regularly go there as a "second home", as they recall, with great enthusiasm, how great it is to sit around the table with a group of good friends, talking all night.

"Here you’ll eat well." This is the motto that this restaurant in Braga should have on its door, signed by its customers and the countless tourists who visit it and encounter a great northern Portuguese cuisine experience.

Mingle

What can you say about one of Braga’s most iconic spots? With a little research, Wikipedia tells us that, in the past, this was a franchised business, created in March 1907, and initially run for 30 years by Adolpho de Azevedo, a businessman from Porto and Vice-Consulate of Brazil in the city of Braga, who offered a coffee to every customer who bought a kilo of it.

Next to the Cathedral, a very important point of interest in Braga for both those who live in the city, as well as for tourists, you’ll find the Mercado da Saudade – a place that offers a bit of the Portuguese culture... and very well.

On the São João do Souto square, now full of movement due to the emergence of Spirito factor, the people of Braga and its visitors have found the spirit of a beautiful terrace where they can linger over a cup of coffee or tea, accompanied by a cupcake, brownie or even by an ice cream, whose flavors and names vary according to the season.

Go out

Everyone in Braga remembers the horseback rides that have always existed at one of the entrances of the Bom Jesus Park. If we say that this bar is in this area, certainly the vast majority of people from Braga will recognize the location. But seeing as Casa Velha’s location isn’t the only thing worth mentioning, we must say: the cocktails are really good here!

Braga is so cool that you can even be surprised by what you’ll find behind a garage door, which is precisely what happens on Rua Nova de Santa Cruz, where you’ll find Pëste – a bar and cultural space.

A peculiar space, right in the center of Braga, more specifically on the Senhora-a-Branca square. Velha-a-Branca is not only a cultural nonprofit space, but it is also a place of lectures or courses where you can learn photography, creative writing and even learn how to manage a home, among other arts or concepts that you most certainly will come across. Even if you don’t wish to attend a course, you can always visit the art exhibitions that focus on budding artists or others who choose this place to exhibit their work; or simply meet up with and socialize with interesting people.

Visit

Much more than a place to buy books, Centésima Página (Page One Hundred) is a space to mingle with books.

The bookstore provides a perfect environment: quiet, serene, warm and pleasant. Housed in a building that has been classified as Public Interest since 1977, the Rolão House is one of the best preserved examples of 18th century Baroque style.

The bookstore lets its visitors sit comfortably while reading the book they may be contemplating… a good read that may be accompanied by an equally good slice of homemade cake or, if its lunchtime, a sandwich, a pasta or lasagna, available at the store’s cafeteria. If the weather is inviting, you can also enjoy the house’s garden.

It never hurts to acknowledge a space that, although private, opens its doors to the public. Here you will find art, namely contemporary art. But it’s not alone: you’ll find it nestled within a beautiful landscape and architectural frame. And all this will cost you absolutely nothing.

A sacred chapel, albeit its exclusive location, it must be visited for its originality and because of the fact that it has already won many architecture awards.

Inside the St. Peter and St. Paul Conciliar Seminary in Braga, is the Tree of Life Chapel – winner of the ArchDaily 2011 award for religious building with the best architecture. This is a place that is worth visiting, not only for its architectural aspect, but also for its mystical one.
